Mount Pelion, Thessaly (1,547 m. elevation)

Mount Pelion in Thessaly with a maximum height of 1,547 m. Mount Pelion lies south of Moutain Ossa, to which it is connected by Mountain Mavrovouni.

Its eastern side, facing the Aegean, is sheer, while the western side slopes gently down to the interior of Magnesia and the Pagasetic Gulf.

Mount Pelion is famous for its beech, oak and chestnut forests, and its natural beauty in general. The ancient Greeks particularly prized its wide variety of medicinal plants, as we see from the myth of the centaur Cheiron, the great healer who lived on its slopes.
