Municipal Art Gallery of Rhodes

The Municipal Art Gallery of Rhodes is located within the Medieval City of Rhodes, in a lovely building in Symis Square.

The Municipal Art Gallery of Rhodes is the first building on the right hand side in the Medieval Town if coming from the Freedom Gate.

It was inaugurated in 1962 and houses one of the most representative collections of the 20th century Greek panting.

The collections include works signed by: F. Kontoglou, K. Maleas, Theophilos, C. Parthenis, Tsarouchis, Chr. Botsoglou, N. Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas, Moralis, Sp. Vassiliou, Y. Gaitis, J. Spyropoulos, Fassianos, Kessanlis, as well as many other Greek artists.

Municipal Art Gallery most most important items on display include “The hero of the Greek War of Independence, Miltiades Yataganas” by Theophilos and “Chief of patrol. Glues on cloth” by Y. Tsarouchis.
                           
In total the gallery houses 690 exhibitions, but only 90 of them are open for the public. The items on display are changed regularly.

The museum is opened daily from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., except on Sundays
