Paros Towns, Parikia, Naoussa, Lefkes

The most important towns in Paros are:

  • Parikia (the capital of Paros island),
  • Naoussa (traditional fishing village)
  • Lefkes (a little town in the mountains)

Other towns in Paros are Pisso Livadi (where the most beautiful beaches in Paros are located), Aliki (known for its airport), Marpissa, Prodromos, Marmara and Ambelas.

Parikia –main port and capital of Paros

Parikia (or Paroikia) is the capital of Paros. The capital is located in a bay which protects it from the harsh winds. The signature of the town is an old mill that serves as an icon and gathering place for property owners.

The Parikia’s foundation goes back in the early Cycladic period when Parikia was an important center for the marble trade. Though during the times, earthquakes have destroyed the earlier settlements you can still find traces of Venetian and Byzantine rule.

Today Parikia is an important tourism center. The port is the ferry hub of the Cyclades and connects the island with all the other islands in the Aegean Sea.

The port is lined up with travel agencies, café bars and shops. Other nice places to visit in the town are: Byzantine church of Ekatontapyliani, the Archaeological Museum of Paros , the ancient Acropolis, fortifications and temples, the Temple of Apollo. Kaminia and Krios beaches are very popular and close by.

Naoussa –the traditional fishing town in Paros

Naoussa is located in the north part of Paros island, about 10 km from Parikia. It is the second largest town after Parikia, as well as the second most important. Most of all, Naoussa is one of the most beautiful ports in Greece.

Lefkes – the town on the mountains of Paros

The town of Lefkes is located in the middle of Paros island, about 12 km from Parikia. The town is extremely quiet and remote. You can choose to go to Lefkes for a day trip because a vacation in Paros is not complete without a trip to this lovely town. It is a traditional Greek village, with impressive architecture and little houses and pottery shops. Don’t forget to drink Greek coffee in a traditional café or take the “Byzantine Trail” if you feel like walking.
