Mykonos the cosmopolitan Greek island

Mykonos is a cosmopolitan island, famous the last decades from the international jet set visitors that spend here their holidays. Mykonos beaches are magnificent, the nightlife surprising and the antiquities of Delos just a couple of miles away.

Everybody goes to Mykonos: from Keith Richards to your favorite movie star. Politicians, designers, basketball players, kings and queens, everyone comes to Mykonos.

There are gay bars and homosexuality is right in the open but unless you are searching for them, you won’t notice anything. There is even a gay-friendly resort area.

Mykonos, the island of contrasts

Drag queens, supermodels and stars from all over the world arrive to Mykonos. Celebrities, the abundantly wealthy, beautiful people, homosexuals, heterosexuals, bisexuals, backpackers, even local Greeks, all enjoy Mykonos. In contrast with this, there are orthodox priests who walk about in long, black robes that “swish-swish” as they dust the cobblestones. I saw old men greeting suntanned vacationers as they lead donkey laden carts with vegetables and flowers, and fishermen leaving the harbour in the morning and returning in the afternoon.

Mykonos for children

Hi. My name is Amarandi Barrett. I am 8 years old and in the Second Grade. (Well I was when I started this) Every summer I go to Greece and go swimming every day.

Mykonos is one of the most popular islands in Greece. It is popular because it has nice beaches, there are a lot of shops, a lot of good restaurants, and many tourists.

 When I first got to Mykonos, some of the things that I noticed was that the water was a really pretty bright blue, there were a lot of tourists and kids, there was a beach right in the port,  that there were lots of shops, that it was really sunny, and that if I didn’t put suntan lotion on I would get sunburned pretty quickly.
