The Ancient Theater in Milos

The Ancient Theater in Milos is located nearby Tripiti and it dates back to the Hellenistic period. However, the remains that are still visible today date since the Roman period of the monument.

A big part of the ancient theater is preserved: the orchestra, the concave with seven marble rows of seats, the floor of the stage building and other architectural parts.

Back in 1838 the French archaeologists started cleaning the site. But excavations began only in 1989 and first revealed the orchestra, the floor of the stage building and some other important architectural parts. Today there is a lot of reconstruction and maintenance at the archaeological site.

Though the site is not completely restored and the research is still going on, the ancient theater of Milos is used for several performances in the summer months.
