Mihalis Hatzigiannis Biography
Mihalis Hatzigiannis was born and raised in Nicosia, Cyprus. He originally comes from Keryneia of Cyprus. When he was 9 years old his father gave him his first guitar asa present on his birthday. After that his mother took him to the local musical academy. He has a degree on classical guitar, piano and theoretical studies at the Musical Academy Of Cyprus (Royal College Of London).
Mihalis Hatzigiannis was also a member of the “Laiki Trapeza” choir in Cyprus.
When he was 14 he took part in the television contest in Cyprus called “Afetiries” which is a contest for talented young people who wish to become singers where he won the 1st place out of 1000 new talents by singing a song called “Den Iparhi Logos” (There is no reason) by Giorgos Dalaras.
Mihalis Hatzigiannis Starting A Career
Mihalis’ Hatzigiannis first music cd came out in 1995 and was called “Senario”. It became platinum very quickly.
His second music cd came out in 1997 and was called “O Mihalis Hatzigiannis Tragouda Doro Georgiadi” (Mihalis Hatzigiannis sings Dora Georgiadi).
In 1998 Mihalis Hatzigiannis represented Cyprus in the Eurovision contest by singing the song “Genesis” a composition of his own and he took the 10th place. Mihalis Hatzigiannis was also in the army at the same time. After the Eurovision contest his third music cd came out, which was called “Epafi”. It also became platinum. At the same year the music cd “Xristougenniatikes Melodies” came out in which children from allover Cyprus sang with Mihalis Hatzigiannis.
Mihalis Hatzigiannis in Athens, Greece
On September of the same year, Mihalis Hatzigiannis moved to Athens. There he met the well known composer Giorgos Hatzinasios, who had seen him, perform at the Eurovision contest and suggested to work with him. So Mihalis Hatzigiannis took part in the soundtrack for the television series of ANT1, “Aggigma Psihis” (Touch of Soul).
On March 2000 Mihalis Hatzigiannis released his first music cd in Greece titled “Parakseni Giorti” (Strainge Celebretion) which became gold very quickly. People paid extra attention to the sweet but melancholic ballad called “Mono Sta Onira” (Only in Dreams). The song “Mono Sta Onira” stayed at number one in the Greek radio airplay for several weeks.
On October of 2000, Mihalis Hatzigiannis showed up at different places of Greece together with the singer Eleni Peta. His next step was his appearances together with the very well know Greek singer Haris Aleksiou and then his appeareances at House Of Art. At that time the single “I Titli Tou Telous Remixes” came out.
On March 2001 Mihalis got the award for the Best First Appearing Artist for 2000. Early in 2001 he released the cd single “Den Echo Chrono” (I Have No Time) in which he had also written the music. It soon reached the top of the charts and went platinum.
On March of 2002 Mihalis Hatzigiannis released his second cd in Greece titled “Krifo Fili” (Secret Kiss). It became gold in June, just a few months later! This album established him as one of the most successful singer-songwriters and promising performers in the Greek music scene.
In summer 2004 he tours through Greece and Cyprus. Another highlight was his appearance during the opening and closing ceremony of the Olympic Games in Athens 2004.
In winter 2004 he appears together with Paschalis Terzis in Athens and Thessaloniki. The program is the most successful one of the season.
The tour in summer 2005 with 30 sold-out concerts and a highlight at the end of the tour in Lykabettos Theater in Athens on two sold-out days was broadcasted live. In 2005 he dominated the winter season with his appearance together with Antonis Remos.
The colaboration with Natascha Theodoridou leads to an appearance together in Thessaloniki May 2006. Summer 2006 is dominated by a great tour through Greece with over 50 sold-out concerts. At the same time in August his new single “Ola i Tipota” (all or nothing) appears and receives double-platin instantly.
In December 2006 he publishes his forth album “Fili kai Ekthri” (friends and enemies) which receives three times platin. At the same time he sings in Athens. His fans queue for hours to get a ticket.
Mihalis Hatzigiannis Abroad
In October 2005 Mihalis Hatzigiannis gave his first concert in Australia. In April 2006 for the second time in his career he worked together with Georgios Dalaras and gave concerts in the USA and Canada in March.
In March 2007 he records the pop rock hit “Tonight” together with the German band Reamonn and their singer Rea Garvey. The duet was featured on the album “Wish” by Reamonn as well as in the Greek version in the cd “Fili kai Ekthri” (Friends and Foes) by Mihalis Hatzigiannis.
