Mount Penteli

Mount Penteli (1,109m. elevation)

Mount Penteli is also known as Vrilissos. Mount Penteli is a mountain range in Attica reaching 1,109 m. at its highest point, which owes its name to the ancient deme of Pentele.

The main massif starts at Ekali and Kastri, with heights reaching to Stavros and Pallini, forming a complex system of peaks and saddles. The range was once densely forested, before the devastating fires of 1995.

Mount Penteli is famous for its white marble, which was used for the construction of the Acropolis (it also produces lower-quality blue marble).
