World record for Syrtaki

Melbourne, Australia earned a place in the Guinness Book of World Records, by dancing the Greek dance syrtaki, from the world-renowned movie Zorba the Greek by Michalis Kakogiannis.

On 18 July 2004, for ten minutes, 1280 people danced in a circle to the popular music composed by Miki Theodorakis in one of Melbournes main squares, in an effort to raise money for the Australian Olympic Team.
