Nikos Anastasopoulos, the “Moustakias” (moustachioed one) of Greek football, was born on 22 January 1958.

His first successes were with Panionios Football team, whose strip he first wore in 1977. Two years later, at the age of 21, he made history as the hero of the 3-1 Panionios-AEK Cup Final.

A year later, Olympiacos managed to sign up the great ace for the record sum of 40 million drachmas! New horizons were spreading out before Nikos Anastasopoulos, who won titles, fame, money and European glory with his transfer to Italy in 1987.

May we remind all those who regretted his move to a minor club (Avellino) that at the time any Italian team could buy any foreign player it wanted, as the Campionato was a universally attractive galaxy of stars (Maradona, Platini).

This great footballer - Nikos Anastopoulos - played a total of 408 times in the Greek championships and scored 179 goals. He won four football championships (1981, 1982, 1983, 1987) and three Cups (1981, 1990, 1992) with Olympiacos and one Cup with Panionios (1979). He was proclaimed top scorer four times (1983, 1984, 1986, 1987), while in 1983 he was the third-highest scorer in Europe with 29 goals, winning the Bronze Boot.
