About Rhodes

rodes

Rhodes is the largest of the Dodecanese islands. It is located about 18 km west of Turkey between mainland Greece and the Island of Cyprus.

The capital, the city of Rhodes, is located at the far northern end of the island and is the capital of the District of the Dodecanese as well as of the Province of Rhodes.

How to get there

You can get to Rhodes from any major city in the world. First take an air plane to Athens and then a commercial local flight to Rhodes. It is the most convenient way to get to Rhodes and the flight takes about 45 minutes. The airport is located 14 km southwest of the capital in Paradisi.

From the airport there are international flights to and from England, Italy, Germany and Israel, as well as chartered flight all around the world.

There are also regular ferries connecting Rhodes to several other major Greek ports: Pireaus (Athens), Cyprus, Thessaloniki, Heraklion and Turkey. The island is also connected to the neighborhood island through boat and hydrofoil services.

Once on the island, you can use the local transport. The best way to get around the island is, however, by renting a car. The road network radiates from the capital along the east and west coasts.
