Paros

paros

Paros is one of the larges islands in the Cyclades group of islands in the Aegean Sea in southern Greece.

Paros is located west of Naxos. Because of the small distance between Naxos and Paros (a 6 m channel) in the local language they are linked together and called Paronaxia.

In the heart of the Cyclades Islands, Paros, with 10,000 inhabitants and 120km coastline, is a whole world fulfilling everybody's dream of an Aegean Island.

The area of the island of Paros is 165 square km and is formed of a single mountain (800m high) and coastal plains on the north east and south west sides. The island is mainly composed of marble but there can be found gneiss and mica-schist in few places

Serene landscape with fertile valleys and rolling hills dotted with small churches and monasteries, endless sandy beaches with sparkling blue waters, famous monuments from the lands rich ancient and medieval past, picturesque white villages bathed in the unique, dazzling Aegean light.

All this, along with warm hospitality, excellent tourist facilities, rich cultural life, cosmopolitan ambience but also the possibility of seclusion, have combined to make Paros one of the most favorite spots in the Cyclades Islands. It is now your turn to discover and explore it.

How to Get to Paros

By plane you can reach Paros from any international airport via Athens. From Athens to Paros the flight takes about 35 minutes. In Paros, the airport is located near the village of Alyki, about 9 km from the capital. Many hotels offer the transfer though many busses run frequently between the capital and the airport.

During the summer, many ferry boats leave from Piraues and Rafina ports. Frequent connections to other islands are also available, such as Mykonos, Santorini, Rhodes, as well as Crete and Thessaloniki, to name just a few. From Piraeus the journey takes about 5 hours depending on the type of boat.
