Eleftherios Venizelos Foundation
 The National Research Foundation "Eleftherios K. Venizelos" is
the result of efforts over many years by the people of Chania and of
Crete to establish a Foundation devoted to the study of the work and
times of Eleftherios Venizelos in the hometown of the greatest Greek
statesman of the 20th century.
The headquarters of the Foundation are located in the
residence of Eleftherios Venizelos in Elena Venizelou Square in Chalepa,
Chania. The house dates from 1877, but assumed its present-day form in
1927 when Eleftherios Venizelos undertook a wholesale renovation of the
building. In March 2002 Venizelos residence was acquired by the Greek
State which in turn ceded it to the Foundation.
