Carnival in Greece
Greece carnivals, in
various regions of Greece are held, the main characteristic
of which is the distinctive local colour and the people's intention
to keep tradition alive.
Carnival is called "Apokries"; it consists of two weeks of feast
and the Carnival celebration usually begins on Tsiknopempti ( Smoky
Thursday ) with a series of cultural, theatrical and other events.
T. which fill the streets, theatres,
cultural centres and squares of the whole country.
The celebrations reach their climax with the traditional party
(Koulouma) on Ash Monday (41 days before Easter), when a kite-flying
spectacle takes place.
