Mount Cithaeron (1,409 m. elevation)

Mount Cithaeron or Kithairou is a  mountain range 1,409 m. tall at its highest peak, on the western borders of Attica and Boeotia.

The main massif, 32 km long, extends to Mount Parnitha to the east via the Skourtas Plateau and Mountain Pateras to the south.

Legend has it that it is named after Cithaeron, a mythical king of the Plataeans who was transformed into a mountain, where the Furies lived, for murdering his father.
