Prespa Lakes in Florina
Prespa Lakes are in Florina Prefecture in Western Macedonia. There are two lakes, one small and the other much larger, with a combined area of 330 sq. km.
The Prespa lakes are separated by thin strip of land about 4 km long. Together with Lakes Malik and Ohrid, they form the Dassaretic Basin.
Whereas the Small Prespa Lake belongs to Greece, except for a small section extending to Albanian soil, the Great Prespa Lake, the largest lake in the Balkans, is divided between Greece, Albania and FYROM.
The Prespa Lakes wetlands are home to a total of 1,500 species of flora, amphibian, fish, mammal and bird, many of which are endangered worldwide
